Lobsang Norbu " I am 82 yrs old. I was born in Lhasa, capital city of Tibet. Imprisoned following the Tibetan National Uprising against the Chinese occupation in 1959, I was released in 1982 after serving 22 yrs in prison. I then participated in the Tibetan Independence protests of 1987 / 1988. In 1988 I spoke to a few American journalists and Chinese authorities issued orders to arrest me. I decided to leave Tibet and seek refuge in India. While in prison I was tortured brutally, sustaining severe injuries to my legs. I had to undergo surgery to treat my fractured legs, which still cause me pain when trying to walk."
